Introduction
Biochemistry is a young science whose genealogy arises from the blending of two variable fields. On one side we have medicine and physiology whiles the other side we have organic chemistry. This union has led to the genesis of one of the most exciting branch of study today, which is biochemistry. Biochemistry in its broad aspect is the most comprehensive of all and is central to all areas of life sciences, which includes organic, inorganic and physical chemistry and also the extent to which each of these are related to the chemistry of life and animals. Today the central goal of the science of biochemistry is to determine how the collections of inanimate molecules interact with each other to constitute, maintain and perpetuate the living systems. Indeed the success of biochemistry in explaining many cellular phenomenons has been so great that many scientists have come to the conclusion that biology is biochemistry.
The program aims to provide a sound understanding of every aspect of the structure and function of living things at the molecular level and to utilize the knowledge for the benefit of mankind.
Course Information
The course is centered on research activity and students being encouraged to take up semester break projects. “Biozyme”, a student and staff body, gives additional inputs related to the subject enabling the students to grow in knowledge. Some of the subjects covered during the course of study include Biophysical and Bio-organic Chemistry, Bio-molecules, General Physiology, Microbiology and Toxicology, Biochemical Techniques, Nutrition and Bioenergetics, Enzymology, Metabolism, Molecular Physiology and Endocrinology, Immunology, Molecular,Biology,Biochemical Genetics, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics etc. |

Entry Requirement
The candidate must have secured 40% marks in aggregate and studied Chemistry or Bio-chemistry (cognate subject) securing 50% marks in this subject at the B.Sc. level and studied Biology at 10+2 or Pre-University
Assessment
The students are assessed based on their performance in the practical lab work, project and term end examination.

Successful completion of the program brings eligibility to join Research Laboratories, Pharmaceutical Industries, Diagnostic Centers, Biotechnology firms, health care centers and Clinical Laboratories, join in as Scientific writers in life science companies, medical transcriptionists, clinical trial and drug designing, scientists in national and international research labs or enter into Ph.D program.
