About Garden City College,
Bangalore

  Garden City College was established in 1994. It is permanently affiliated to Bangalore University and is one of the most prestigious Institutions in India for higher education. The college is accredited by NAAC with 'A' grade and is an ISO 9001:2008 certified institution. Garden City College offers 11 Under Graduate courses and 11 Post Graduate Programs.

GCC has students from across India and more than 70 other nations. Upholding the motto "Emphasis is on Life" GCC believes in providing a holistic learning experience to its students and is on the path of constant innovation. Department of Languages

  The Department of Languages, since its inception, has been endeavoring earnestly towards its commitment to bring qualitative improvement for all the stakeholders. The department provides the students an extra edge by involving them in various activities under the aegis of Literary Club, Thespians â€" Theatre Club, and Cine Club. The faculty members of the department are actively involved in conducting various skill-based programs like Functional English,Communication Skills, Soft Skills, Voice and Accent Training for the student community to help them gain confidence to face interviews and other challenges of globalized world.

The faculty members of the department are also actively involved in research and publication. Luminaire (ISSN 2249-2542), the department journal devoted to English literature and language is another feather in the cap of our achievements.



Theme of the Conference

  The process of globalization has resulted in the movement of ideas as well as people across the world in unprecedented ways. The contemporary scenario represents challenges and dilemmas in varied ways.

The Conference would focus on recent trends in literature with an attempt to critique matters related to culture, nationality, ethnicity, language, class and gender. It aims at exploring different strategies adopted by writers in their literary works in grappling with issues which are the primary concerns of our times.



Objectives of the Conference

  The primary objective of the conference is to create a platform for academicians, research scholars and students to share experiences about the role and contribution of contemporary literatures in the
re-formation of the modern sensibility. It also aims at a meaningful discussion among professionals involved in the teaching of English and exploring the multiple implications of globalism and its impact
in the contemporary world.

Discussion themes: The themes for discussion and paper presentation will have a close bearing on the following sub-themes
  • Changing Perspectives in Indian Writings in English
  • Translation of Regional Literature
  • Resistance Literature
  • Emancipation of Women
  • African and African American Literature
  • Dalit and Minority Writings
  • Diasporic Studies
  • Multiculturalism in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and India

 

Call for Papers

  Insightful papers focusing on the theme of the conference are invited. Interested participants may send the abstract of their papers (not exceeding 300 words) by 15th November 2011. The abstract should include the title of the paper, author's name, designation, institutional affiliation, postal address, telephone number and e-mail id. Participants should also mention their category – academicians (teachers from educational institutions) or research scholars/students.



Guidelines for Paper Submission

 
  • Standard A4 size paper with 1.5 margins on all sides.
  • Double spacing throughout.
  • Scripts should be in MS Word (2003-2007) – Times New
    Roman, font size 12.
  • Full paper must not exceed 20 minutes in delivery.
  • Soft copy of the abstract and the full paper may be sent as an
  • e-mail attachment to engconf2012@gardencitycollege.edu

Local Delegate from Academic Institution (without accommodation) : Rs. 800.00
Delegate from other institutions (with accommodation) : Rs. 1500.00

Important Dates

 

Last date for sending abstracts (e-mail attachment) : 15th November 2011
Intimation of acceptance of abstracts after scrutiny : 21st November 2011
Last date for registration (DD along with the registration form) : 10th December 2011
Last date for sending the full paper (e-mail attachment) : 31st December 2011

Note:
  • There will be no spot registration.
  • LCD facility will be provided for presentation. Participants need to mention LCD requirement in the registration form.
  • Participants need to send the filled up registration form along with the demand draft for registration before the due date.
  • Only paper presenters will be given the certificates of presentation. In case of co-authors, all of them need to be present during the conference.
  • We will not be able to issue paper presentation certificate to those who are not present during the conference.
