The Department of Life Science (Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Genetics) was established in the year 1995 with the objective of ensuring practical laboratory training in nurturing the application of scientific knowledge from theory to practical industry, imparting leadership quality with moral and ethical values and self-motivation. The teaching approach of the undergraduate programmes offered by Department is an integrated approach with innovative thinking, in order to articulate a multi-disciplinary perspective on Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Genetics as a holistic approach. This versatile and innovative approach is sure to provide students with the necessary resources to face the challenges in the present world.

The Department works towards the objective to provide excellent teaching, research and consultancy services in multifarious fields of Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Genetics. The students centered curriculum and co- curricular strategies emphasize creativity, self-learning resourcefulness and professional enrichment. The faculties are successful in mobilizing highly competitive research and extension project grants from the various funding agencies such as VGST.
