Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM) is an under-graduate course offered by GCC under the Bangalore University and approved by AICTE, New Delhi. The Hotel Management Program is blended with value education inputs and Emphasis on holistic development of the students. A degree in Hotel Management gives you a perspective of customer service which is essential for succeeding in any job or business. Apart from that it helps in honing various skills like cooking, service of food and beverage, facility management, flower arrangement, entrepreneurship skills etc. One could work at various positions like Chefs, sommeliers, F&B Managers, Event Managers, concierges, Lobby managers, flair bartenders, celebrity chefs etc in the field of hospitality. One could join any organization which practices customer services like a bank, hospitals, cruise ships, airlines, tour operators etc. One could join the defence services also as a JCO.

The Course not only bridges the gap between the industry and education but also provides a platform to develop the skills and potential which is the need of the hour.

The BHM course in itself is a wholesome entity comprising of subjects which covers up the operational and management aspects of the hospitality and tourism industry. The syllabus is spread over eight equal semesters which also includes two semesters of Industrial Exposure Training in a reputed star hotel or resort in India or Abroad. The subjects are a combination of theory and practical making it interesting and capturing the young minds to open up and create a professional in them. While theory is taught through various pedagogy, the well equipped vestibule laboratories help in learning core subjects like Food and Beverage Production, Food and Beverage Service, Front Office and Housekeeping that provide first hand practical training making them compatible for the industry. Other than the core subjects, a student also has to equip themselves in areas like Tourism Management, Marketing, Financial Accounts, Communicative English, Food Science and Nutrition etc. Apart from the syllabus, the Department of Hotel Management emphasizes on Value Addition Programmes like Soft skill development, Personality Development, Oenology, Event Management, Placement Training Programmes, which include training students in group discussions, public speaking, facing interviews and so on.

Varied opportunities are available in top end hotels- at international and national level, retail outlets like Ritz Carlton, J W Marriott, METRO cash n’carry, KFC, McDonalds, Dominos Pizza, Facility management companies, Travel Agencies, Airlines and other such exquisite fields in the position of Management Trainee, Hotel Operational Trainee and Associates. Salary offered ranges between Rs 40,000/- for MTs and Rs 15,000/- for Associates. The European system of education requires 16 years of formal education which is possible with a BHM degree (10+2+4) as it is a 4 year degree program unlike other 3 year degree courses.
