Garden City College of Science and Management Studies Rules and Regulations

1. Students are to attend classes regularly and put in a minimum attendance of 85% in aggregate in each semester and a minimum of 75% in each subject.

2. The Programme is full-time and is affiliated to Bangalore University. Students shall not refrain from attending classes, academic or extracurricular activities conducted or organized by the college on the pre-text of work during studies which is unauthorized.

3. The student must follow the code of conduct. Any misconduct would draw disciplinary action. The following (but not limited to) are examples of misconduct:

  • Disruption of, or improper interference with, the academic, administrative, sporting, social or other activities of the college, whether on college premises or elsewhere;
  • Obstruction of, or improper interference with, the functions, duties or activities of any student, member of staff or other employee of the college or any authorized visitor to the college;
  • Violent, indecent, disorderly, threatening or offensive behavior or language (whether expressed orally or in writing, including electronically) even as on college premises or engaged in any college activity or otherwise affecting or concerning a college student or member of staff;
  • Distributing or publishing on college premises or while engaged in any College activity a poster, notice, social media, sign or any other matter which is offensive, intimidating, threatening, indecent or illegal;
  • Fraud, deceit, deception or dishonesty in relation to the College or its staff or in connection with holding any office in the College or in relation to being a student of the College;
  • Action likely to cause injury or impair safety on College premises;
  • Action likely to impair security on College premises (including the passing of security codes to those not authorized to use them, copying of College keys, and disabling of locks and fastenings);
  • Any action of harassment or bullying of any student, member of staff, other employee of the College, any authorized visitor to the College,or of any other person in the course of a College activity;
  • The possession, use or discharge of any weapon, explosive or detonator or the discharge of any firework;
  • Breach of the provisions of the College’s Code of Practice on Freedom of Speech or of any other Code or College rule or regulation which provides for breaches to constitute misconduct under this Code;
  • Damage to, or defacement of, College property or the property of other members of the College community caused intentionally or recklessly, and misappropriation of such property;
  • Dropping litter of any description on College premises, whether inside or outside buildings;
  • Placing posters, signs or notices on any surface other than authorized notice boards; where an offence has been committed under this paragraph, the person or body for whose benefit the poster, sign or notice appears to have been displayed shall be presumed to be responsible for the display unless the contrary is shown;
  • Misuse or unauthorized use of College premises or items of property, including computer misuse, the misuse or disabling of fire-prevention or fire-fighting equipment, the misuse or alteration of electrical fittings and the unauthorized use of electrical appliances;
  • Conduct which amounts to be a criminal offence, in case:
    • (a) Took place on College premises, or
    • (b) Affected or concerned other members of the College community, or
    • (c) Damages the good name of the College, or
    • (d) Is deemed to be a serious misconduct under these rules.
  • (16) Failure to disclose name and other relevant details to a member of the College staff in circumstances
    when it is reasonable to require that such information be given;

  • (17) Failure to comply with a previously-imposed penalty under this Code (other than non-payment of a fine, which will be dealt with as a debt to the College);

  • (18) Failure to conform to the directions as to behavior or conduct given in writing by the Principal.

BEHAVIOR OF THE STUDENTS

  • Groupism of any kind that would distort the harmony is not permitted.
  • Students are expected to spend their free time in the Library/Reading Room. They shall not loiter along the verandahs or crowd in front of the offices or the Campus roads. Students should refrain from sitting on places such as parapets, stairs, footpaths etc.
  • GCC Campus is a “Strictly No Smoking and No Alcohol Campus”. Possession or consumption of narcotic drugs, tobacco, alcohol and other intoxicating substances are strictly prohibited in the Campus and Hostels.
  • Silence shall be maintained in the premises of the College Hostel.
  • Students are not permitted to use mobile phones in the class room, Library, Computer Centre, Examination Halls, etc.
  • Students shall not indulge in any undesirable activity and shall maintain highest standard of discipline.
  • Students shall refrain from all activities considered as ragging which is an offence, under UGC guidelines and under the relevant law.
  • Students are prohibited from indulging in anti-institutional, anti-national, antisocial, communal, immoral or political expressions and activities within or outside the Campus and hostels.
  • Politically or Religious based students’ and other organizations or outfits are not allowed in the Campus. Students are strictly prohibited from organizing, attending or participating in any activity or agitation sponsored by politically or religious based organizations.
  • Students shall not deface, disfigure, damage or destroy or cause any loss in any manner to or regarding public, private or College properties.
  • Unauthorized entry of outsiders into the campus as well as hostels is strictly prohibited. Without specific permission of the authorities, students shall not bring outsiders to the College or hostels.
  • No one shall bring, distribute or circulate unauthorized notices, pamphlets, leaflets etc within the Campus or hostels. The possession, distribution or exhibition of any item by any means which is per se obscene is prohibited within the Campus or on any property owned/ managed by the College.
  • No one shall exhibit any type of banners, flags, boards etc. inside the campus, gates, and buildings or on the compound walls.
  • No student shall collect money either by request or by coercion from others within the campus or hostels.
  • The College being a place of learning and an exclusive academic zone, nobody shall respond to any call for any form of strike, procession or agitation or indulge in anything which may harm the peaceful atmosphere of the Institution and shall eschew from violence in the Campus and hostels and even outside.
  • No student shall exert undue influence on fellow students.
  • Possession or usage of weapons, explosives or anything that causes injury/ damage to the life and limb or body of any human being or property is prohibited.
  • Rash or negligent driving of vehicles around the Institute premises is prohibited.
  • No student shall enter or leave the classroom when the session is on without the permission of the teacher.
  • Students charged with any criminal offence (charge sheet)or being a party to any registered complaint or FIR, by or against, with the Police or any such authority or if under suspension shall not enter the College Campus without the permission of the competent authority.
  • Any case of criminal activity or violation of law and order in the College Campus will bereported to the police.
  • Students shall only use the waste bins for dispensing waste materials within the Campus including classrooms, hostels, offices, canteen and messes.
  • Any conduct which leads to lowering of the esteem of the College (including comments on social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter etc.) is prohibited.
